RocketShare vs TransferNow

TransferNow is European but doesn't encrypt files end-to-end. RocketShare adds zero-knowledge encryption so even the server can't see your data. Compare them here.

Last updated: March 3, 2026

TransferNow is a solid European file transfer service — straightforward, reliable, and easy to use. It even includes password protection on the free tier, which is a nice touch. But TransferNow doesn't offer zero-knowledge encryption. They encrypt files in transit and at rest, yet hold the keys themselves. RocketShare gives you the same easy transfer experience with the guarantee that your files are encrypted before they leave your browser.

The encryption gap

RocketShare encrypts every file with AES-256-GCM using 256-bit keys generated by the Web Crypto API — directly in your browser. The encryption key is embedded in the URL fragment (the part after #), which per RFC 3986 is never sent to the server. RocketShare cannot access your files, ever.

TransferNow uses TLS for data in transit and encrypts at rest, but holds the encryption keys on their servers. Your files could be accessed by the service or disclosed in response to legal requests.

European services, different privacy guarantees

Both RocketShare and TransferNow are European. TransferNow is based in France and stores data in Europe — which is a solid foundation for privacy.

RocketShare stores encrypted files in Amsterdam, EU, with an additional technical layer: zero-knowledge encryption ensures that even if someone gained access to the servers, your files would be unreadable without the key that only exists in your share link.

Legal protection is good. Legal protection plus encryption you can verify is better.

Free tier comparison

TransferNow's free tier is generous: 5 GB per transfer with no monthly quota and password protection included. RocketShare's free tier is 4 GB per month across 10 transfers with 7-day expiry — more limited in raw capacity, but every transfer is protected by zero-knowledge encryption.

If you just need to send large files casually, TransferNow's free tier gives you more room. If privacy is the priority, RocketShare's encryption is the differentiator.
